Marlborough Hospitality Services has been providing legal, consultancy and project oversight services to the hospitality and residential housing industries since 2009. Based in Singapore, we advise developers, investors and hotel management companies worldwide, and have handled negotiations with virtually every major international hotel chain.

The firm grew out of First Oriental Holdings Corporation, a Singapore-based private equity firm that achieved profits in excess of US$50 million in 2007–2008. Launched as a dedicated hospitality advisory firm in 2009, Marlborough has been under the sole ownership of Michael Evanoff since 2011.

Marlborough provides legal, financial, strategic advisory, and technical services across the full lifecycle of hospitality and residential developments.

Hotel and Resort Development

End to end project implementation and oversight for city and resort hotels, casinos, residential and mixed-use developments. From site evaluation to selecting the design team, to design review and monitoring construction and outfitting. More than eighty projects completed.

Contracts and Legal Documentation

Preparation and negotiation of all documentation, including joint venture agreements, hotel management agreements, loan agreements, consultant and construction agreements. Over one hundred hotel management agreements completed, acting for both investors and operators.

Investment Strategy

Strategic consulting for investors in the hospitality and residential industries, particularly in Asia. Opportunity evaluation, deal structuring and portfolio management.

Financing Arrangements

Extensive experience working with lenders to arrange project financing and to document loans.

Operator and Partner Selection

Strong relationships with most international hotel brands and with hotel and residential property investors. We help to identify the right partners for a project and the right operators for hotels.

Michael is a member of the New York State and U.S. Federal bars and worked for major international law firms in New York and London before joining Hyatt International Corporation in 1984.

While at Hyatt International, Michael worked closely with Jay Pritzker, the legendary founder and Chairman of Hyatt, and oversaw the development of approximately seventy Hyatt International hotels worldwide, as well as several casinos and multi-purpose projects.

Among the investment deals for which Michael was responsible were the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, the Grand Hyatt Bali, the Park Hyatt Paris, the Park Hyatt Milan, the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, the Grand Hyatt Seoul, the Regency Hotel and Casino (Greece), and the Park Hyatt Zurich and the Hyatt Regency Belgrade.

Michael is the author of The International Hotel Management Agreement: Origins, Evolution and Its Status Today, a peer-reviewed paper published by Cornell University (Cornell Hospitality Report, May 2016). He has also published several articles on specific aspects of hotel management agreements and has been a guest instructor at several major business schools.

Andre Pury

Andre is Marlborough's Senior Vice-President and Development Director with a roving brief to assist Marlborough in its hotel development activities throughout Southeast Asia.

Before retiring from Hyatt International in 2006, Andre was Senior Vice President, Europe-Africa-Middle East — effectively the number two position at the company, reporting directly to Hyatt International's Board of Directors.

Like Malcolm, Andre is a graduate of the Lausanne Hotel School. Prior to taking over Hyatt International's EAME Division, Andre held senior positions with the company in Indonesia, Iran, Singapore and Thailand.

Andre is familiar with hotel development and operations in all corners of the world. He was also a Board Member of numerous Hyatt International subsidiaries.

Malcolm Turner

Hyatt International's former head of Technical Services, Malcolm is in charge of providing technical assistance to developers and investors — and sometimes to boutique hotel management companies.

Malcolm was educated at the prestigious Lausanne Hotel School and oversaw the design and construction of Hyatt hotels in Mexico, North Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America before being put in overall charge of Hyatt International's Technical Services Department.

Prior to retiring from Hyatt in 2010, Malcolm authored the Brand Standard Manuals for all four brands then in Hyatt's stable — Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and Andaz.

Since leaving Hyatt, Malcolm has continued to work on hotel projects on almost every continent, providing guidance to developers and investors on design, construction, outfitting and budgetary matters.

Daniel Chong

Daniel brings more than thirty years of hospitality leadership experience, complemented by seven years in international banking. A graduate of the National University of Singapore with a degree in Business Administration, Daniel has built a distinguished career working for some of the world's leading hotel brands.

Prior to joining Marlborough, Daniel held senior positions with Hyatt International Corporation, IHG, United Overseas Land, Meritus Hotels and Resorts, Banyan Tree Holdings and Preferred Hotels and Resorts, overseeing business operations throughout the Asia-Pacific region, with a deep specialization in Southeast Asia.

Recognized for his strategic insight and commercial acumen, Daniel's expertise spans business planning and budgeting, asset management, sourcing loan finance, hotel accounting and revenue optimization.

Michel Jauslin

Michel is a widely experienced hotelier and until his retirement was Hyatt's Vice President – Southwestern Europe and North Africa.
